These Photos Posted in the “Life” Magazine Will Make You Consider Taking Up Photography
That ”It’s a Girl!” Moment, 1954
The year was 1954, and the few pieces of technology available included color telephone sets and medical and scientific inventions. While medical science was just evolving, scientists had just developed a way to determine the gender of a child, and Jane Dill was one of the first to experience the joy.
Being a mother is something to be proud of, and this lab in Northbrook, Illinois, took pleasure in giving mothers the news. From this picture taken by photographer Wallace Kirkland just after Dill was told that her baby was a girl, you can tell that she couldn’t hide her excitement.
Just Another Day in Audrey Hepburn’s Life, 1953
Many people only remember Audrey Hepburn for her significant contribution to the film industry since the ’50s. However, most of them forget what a phenomenal fashion icon she was, and it’s something that photographer Mark Shaw never got out of his mind since his encounter with her in 1953.

Hepburn was only 24 years old and at the start of her career when she invited Shaw to photograph her as she went about her daily routine without staging anything. Of all the photos taken that day, this one reminds us of how she would often make a plain white T-shirt look glamorous.
Kim Novak: The Centre of Attention, 1956
Men are visual creatures, and that explains why they are attracted by the beauty of women before approaching them and getting to know them better. This trait is clearly illustrated in this picture taken in 1956 when women were just beginning to embrace roles dominated by men.

The beautiful actress Kim Novak is the center of attention in this photo, and she was in the room during the 20th-century Limited dinner. While she was renowned for her acting prowess, it seems she had plenty of courage to walk into that room full of men in suits, and they couldn’t resist her charm.
The Best of Marilyn Monroe, 1962
The name Marilyn Monroe evokes a host of memories in the mind of anyone who witnessed her excellence as an actress, model, and singer. Besides her stellar career, she was also known for disfavored things, such as her roaring affair with President John F. Kennedy, which makes this photo even more intriguing.

Pictured in a shimmering gown, this was one of her best performances at the Madison Square Garden in May 1962, during President John F. Kennedy’s birthday. It’s a pity they both failed to live up to their potential, with Monroe passing on later that year before the president’s assassination in 1963.
Peace at Last, 1945
According to studies, human beings are not naturally happy, and we must create a comfortable place for ourselves with our actions. That is evident in this picture, taken as New York City was jubilant over the day imperial Japan surrendered, bringing World War II to an end.

Amidst the celebration around Times Square, this magical moment of a sailor kissing a dental assistant in public was captured by Alfred Eisenstaedt, who was notorious for photographing people riding their happiness. However, there was probably nothing more to the kiss, as the guy was also seen kissing other women on the street.
