Biggest Anchor And Reporter Bloopers That Will Go Down In History
Don’t Be Alarmed, Please!
Not all weather forecasters are reliable — some are just hired to read a script while others really know what they’re talking about. However, fans of Mike Fish, the longest-serving meteorologist for “BBC Weather,” would probably wonder about their idol’s credibility after he made a huge, unforgettable mistake decades ago.
In 1987, Fish clarified on-air that a woman’s claim that a hurricane was on the way to hit the United Kingdom wasn’t true. He assured viewers that there wasn’t a need to worry, leaving the people complacent. The Great Storm came and killed over 15 people and damaged properties, so the meteorologist apologized.
Bird’s Nest on TV
Reporting can become a mundane task for senior anchors, but time and again, there are many incidents at work that can still entertain anyone. In 2018, employees of the San Diego station KFMB had an interesting day when a 10-year-old scarlet ibis Sophie perched on the anchors’ heads, much to their surprise.
Apparently, Nichelle Medina was telling the viewers about the additional members of the San Diego Zoo when the bird decided it was time to appear on camera. She obviously handled it well unlike her colleague, Eric Kahnert. Ibis are long-legged birds that mainly live in wetlands.
Is Somebody There?
Even when news programs do what they do every day, there would always be times when things wouldn’t go as smoothly. Transitions from one segment to the other can be particularly difficult because when there’s a lack of communication, it could catch anchors off-guard.
This was exactly what happened to meteorologist Tomasz Schafernaker in 2018, who had no idea that the scene panned to him early. Unsure if he was live, the poor guy kept saying “Hello,” and when he didn’t receive any feedback, continued to pick on his clothes and nails. At one point, he even showed he was frustrated clearly not realizing that he was on-air!
